
In an article for Health Service Journal, Health Project leader David Furness addresses the important issue of accountability in healthcare. With a crisis in the public finances that will have a real impact on health services, making sure that decision making is accountable to local people is ever more important. This is particularly true of local Primary Care Trusts – the commissioners who will be making the tough decisions about service cutbacks that will be needed in the years ahead. David suggests that there is a role for greater local democracy in holding commissioners to account.
