Autumn Party Conferences 2008
Liberal Democrats: 13-17 September, Bournemouth
Labour: 21-25 September, Manchester
Conservatives: 28 September – 1 October, Birmingham
The SMF’s party conference programme has earned an enviable reputation over the last few years, featuring high quality speakers debating key policy questions. Our fringe events are topical and insightful, covering many of the issues that are likely to be dominant over the coming Parliamentary year. They attract good audiences and promote lively debate across the political spectrum.
We were delighted with the success of our 2007 programme, highlights from which can be found below. We are already putting together our plans for 2008 and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in working with us to shape what we hope will be our best conference programme yet.
The SMF combines a wealth of party conference experience with in-depth policy knowledge, which enables us to produce first-rate events. The work we do would not be possible without our supporters and we work very hard to ensure that we deliver value and quality in all our fringe events.
Our supporters benefit from the opportunity to help us plan and shape our fringe programme. Further benefits include:

For the SMF, the party conference season is one of the key points in our year.
Our 2007 fringe programme picked up many of the policy issues which have been, and continue to be, under regular discussion around Whitehall. In particular the 42 fringes held cross the three conferences discussed climate change; issues around community and cohesion; behavioural change; and skills and the economy. Our keynote debates, held at the Labour and Conservative Conferences, were huge successes, looking at the equity gap and considering whether the Conservative Party is still the party of low tax, respectively.
We were delighted to engage many of the UK’s leading policy practitioners and key political figures once again this year enabling us to deliver the current, varied and incisive programme which has come to be associated with the SMF.
