We conduct original quantitative and qualitative research, and punchy think-pieces leading to clear policy recommendations. Our work is designed to influence policymaking by providing politicians with workable solutions to current and developing policy challenges.
The SMF is known not only for the topicality of our interventions but also for the intellectual rigour and strong evidence base for our arguments, which are backed by politicians from across the spectrum. As well as influencing the thinking of politicians and gaining exposure for our ideas in the media, we play a vital role in working with Whitehall and a large number of leading academics to bring clarity to some of the big questions facing policymakers – from the detail of public service commissioning to the quandary of higher education funding.
We also produce edited essay collections and commissioned work focusing on the major emerging policy questions. Featuring contributions from leading experts in their fields, including politicians, academics and practitioners, these publications shape the debate.
