SMF Director Ian Mulheirn to join Oxford Economics

Social Market Foundation Director, Ian Mulheirn, is to step down later this year to take up a senior role at the leading economic consultancy Oxford Economics.

Under Mulheirn’s leadership the think tank has developed a formidable reputation for bold policy proposals, insightful economic analysis and robust public policy debate. This was recognised last year when the SMF was named best UK Think Tank of the Year at the 2012 Prospect Magazine awards. The organisation also scooped the Economic and Financial Think Tank award.

Social Market Foundation Chair, Mary Ann Sieghart, said:

“Over the past five years, Ian has led the SMF to become one of the UK’s most innovative and rigorous think tanks. In addition to producing top quality research and new thinking on economic and social policy, Ian has established a high-performing staff team who will continue to take the SMF from strength to strength.

“We wish him every success in his new role and look forward to appointing a successor to lead the organisation into an exciting new phase.”

Mulheirn, who has been Director of the SMF since 2008, will remain in post until the autumn. An open recruitment process for a new Director will begin next week.
