The “Northern Powerhouse” is the government’s latest attempt to rebalance the economy. The aim is that, by joining together the cities of the North, the government can create an agglomeration with the scale to counterbalance London. The government has put in place a range policies under the ‘Powerhouse’ label, including those in transport, devolution and science and innovation. But what is the evidence base behind these interventions? And what does the evidence say about the chances of the Northern Powerhouse in reducing disparities? This event will seek to address these questions.
