Which way now? Economic policy after a decade of upheaval

The UK has just lived through a decade of turmoil, which began with the financial crisis and ends with the country standing on the brink of Brexit.

These events and the years in between have raised fundamental questions about the UK economy and how public policy can respond to the challenges behind those questions. We have never needed expert economic analysis more than we do today.

The Centre for Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy and the Social Market Foundation both work to help policymakers respond to those challenges, offering evidence-based analysis and expertise on public policy. Together, we invite you to the launch of the latest CAGE/SMF Policy Report: Which way now? Economic policy after a decade of upheaval

This report brings together the insight and research of 25 leading economists to explain the fundamental causes of the Brexit vote, what it tells us about where we need to direct our policy attention, and how the UK can promote inclusive growth and financial stability.

The event included presentations from three of the report’s contributors:

Prof Vera Troeger of Warwick University

Prof Michael McMahon of Oxford University

Dr Claire Crawford of Birmingham University

Emran Mian, Director General of Higher Education at the Department of Education will chair a panel discussion with speakers including Anne McElvoy, Senior Editor and Head of Economist Radio Vicky Pryce, Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research and Torsten Bell, Director of the Resolution Foundation.
