Ask the Expert: Discrimination in the Criminal Justice System

The Durability of Inertia: a consideration of the Lammy and Young reviews

In this Ask The Expert event, in association with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), we were joined by Patrick Williams from Manchester Metropolitan University.

David Cameron’s announcement of a review to explore explanations for ‘possible’ discrimination in criminal justice outcomes (again) signals the durability of racialised disproportionality throughout the Criminal Justice System of England and Wales.

Patrick Williams  explored alternative models of thought as a means through which, to make sense of the racialisation of crime and offending behaviour.

Speaker:
Patrick Williams, Department of Sociology, Manchester Metropolitan University

Chair:
Nida Broughton, Chief Economist, Social Market Foundation
